What did you do this summer? - Youth Ministry Recap
2014 was an especially busy summer for Youth Ministry here at Holy Cross! Chances are that you know someone in the parish who has a child that participated in something Youth Ministry put on this summer.
Some Summer fun
Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade had the opportunity to have Wednesday evenings full of food, friends, fun, and faith at Breakaway. There they got to hear about who Jesus was as a person, and learn from that how we should be living our lives. We also took a group of over 50 area middle schoolers to Saranac Villiage, a Wyldlife Camp, for 5 days away from home, technology, and the distractions and stresses of everyday life. This time away helps our middle school students to grow in their relationships with each other, their leaders, and most importantly, God.
His hands and feet
Our high school students spent their Monday nights this summer at Wet N’ Word, which is a pool party and Bible study. We went through the book of Acts together looking at how the early apostles lived and talking about how we can draw inspiration from that for our lives. We also spent an incredible week serving the greater Syracuse community at Summer Servants. This week is spent living in true fellowship, just as the first apostles did learning about The Lord and serving his kingdom. A large, and sometimes forgotten part of our Catholic faith is God’s call to serve…to get out there and be His hands and feet…it is always an incredible experience to see teenagers do so much good in such a short amount of time.
Summer isn’t the end of fun in Youth Ministry! The Fall is just getting kicked off, and there is even more in store. Check out the calendar to make note of the upcoming Youth Ministry events, and if you know someone in 6th-12th grades invite them to join us! Just as everyone is welcome in God’s Kingdom, everyone is also welcome at any Youth Ministry event!
