First Eucharist

The Sacrament of First Eucharist (also known as First Communion) is an important rite for Catholic families and individuals. Holy Communion is the third of seven sacraments received. It occurs only after receiving Baptism, and once the person has reached the age of reason (usually, around the second grade). First confession (also known as First Penance) must precede the reception of the Eucharist.

First Penance

The Sacrament of First Penance occurs during a child’s second grade year (and up) and precedes preparation for the Sacrament of First Eucharist. Preparation and participation in First Penance (fall) is combined with preparation and celebration of First Eucharist (spring) as a complementary year-long process.

If your child is participating in our Sacramental Prep program for First Penance, you can sign up for your time slot here.

Our Saturday, October 19th workshop, Mass, & family dinner is rescheduled. The information covered in the workshop will be combine into our Saturday, November 2nd workshop. Please RSVP here, for the Mass & family dinner following the workshop.

Sacramental Prep

We are so grateful for you and your desire to keep the Catholic faith alive through the teachings of Jesus and participation in the Sacraments. Students must actively participate in Faith Formation or a Catholic school one year prior to beginning their Sacramental Prep year. For example,

  • A child preparing for and receiving their first Sacraments during their second grade year, must attend Faith Formation classes during their first and second grade years if he or she does not attend a Catholic school.

  • Students enrolled in a Catholic school during their first and second grade years need only to attend the Direct Prep sessions throughout the year during their second grade year.

Those participating in our Sacramental Prep program for First Penance and First Eucharist will have options to choose from for both receiving First Penance and their First Eucharist Mass celebration that is most convenient and beneficial for their family. As we get closer to the date you will receive a form for designating your preferred time and date.

Registration

Registration for Sacramental Preparation for First Penance and First Eucharist are combined. If you have already registered your child for First Penance, it is not necessary to re-register for First Eucharist. If you have a unique situation where you only need to register for only one of these Sacraments, please contact us at the parish office. Registration is now closed for the 2019-2020 Sacramental Prep year. If you have a question about our sacramental prep program or registration, please contact Julie Sheridan.
