Obituary
Joyce A. Ryan, 88, of Syracuse, passed away on February 5, 2024 in Rochester. Born in 1935 in Plains, PA, Joyce married James Ryan and they raised their family in Endicott, NY. Joyce and Jim were residents of Syracuse, NY for many years in retirement. She was an administrative assistant for New York Telephone and the Union-Endicott Central School District for several years. Joyce and Jim were long time members of Our Lady of Good Counsel and Holy Cross parishes.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years. Surviving are her daughter, Marijoyce Ryan Maguire (Richard) of Rochester, NY; sons, James of Syracuse NY, Michael (Jan) of West Chester PA, Christopher (Peggy) of Port Washington NY; grandchildren; great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
Joyce was an ardent volunteer for many activities including Cub Scouts, Brownies, PTA, Catechism Classes, Alter Rosary Society, and neighborhood associations, among others. She was known for her great smile, style and strength. Her greatest joy in life was her family and her gifts to them were immeasurable.
The family wishes to thank the incredible team of caregivers at Creekstone Memory Care, Fairport, NY for their loving attention and assistance.
A private family service will be held on Saturday, February 10 at Holy Cross Church, DeWitt, NY, with interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt, NY.
