Obituary

Lockhart Myron Russell (Locky) died on June 4, 2024. Born to William Lockhart Russell and Florence Aldrich Russell on October 6,1932. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Bernadette, and his son and daughter in-law, Stuart and Katherine, and his grandson, William of Hanover, PA, niece Heidi Russell of New York City, nephew Scott Russell of Rochester NY, and niece, Heather Russell of Cleveland, Ohio. Lockhart was predeceased by Merritt and Carol (Pedersen) Russell of Oxford, NY.

Lockhart Russell grew up in the hamlet of Downsville, NY in the Catskills Mountains. Graduating valedictorian in his high school class, Lockhart went on to study chemistry at Syracuse University where he was active in the Syracuse University Marching Band and ACACIA fraternity. Graduating with a BS in Chemistry he went to work in the uniformed service of the US Public Health Service in Cincinnati, OH. Following this, Lockhart returned to Syracuse university to attend graduate school. Upon completion of a graduate degree in Library Science, he took a job at the Syracuse University Science & Technology Library eventually becoming the Engineering and Computer Science Librarian responsible for acquisition and maintenance of the engineering and computer science collection. Lockhart was an avid Syracuse University sports fan and was a season ticket holder until his retirement in 1999. In retirement he and his wife lived in Maryland and Florida.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15 at 11:00 A.M. at Holy Cross Church in Dewitt, NY and laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery.
