Sin: Mortal & Venial
Sin is our rejection of the rules that protect our relationship with God. There are two types of sin, Venial (which is a minor offense against God but still hurts our relationship with Him) and Mortal (think “deadly” as a serious offense that destroys your relationship). In order for a sin to be mortal, it must consist of all of these three conditions. It must be grave matter (very serious offense). You must have full knowledge (you know totally what you are doing is wrong), and you must have complete consent (you freely choose to do it). Confession is the ordinary way to restore relationship with God.
