Refugee Assistance Committee

The Refugee Assistance Committee seeks to know our refugee neighbors by encouraging the integration of refugees who have been relocated to our city. Members of the committee work together and individually to help in various ways:

  • Befriend and assist a refugee family as they learn to transition to Syracuse

  • Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement: help to sort items & organize the refugee clothing closet or help as a teaching assistant in a classroom.

  • Share advocacy information and attend local events such as World Refugee Day.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors

Create a caring community!

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a ministry that cares for people through prayer & small works of service. Members of this group offer to provide a short term service such as: meals to people recovering from surgery or the birth of a baby, help with a ride to church, or assisting with light yard work or housework. Our goal is to be a light in the community and to share the love of Christ while connecting with our parish family in simple ways. Are you willing to help with this ministry?

Send an email to: helpingneighbors@holycrossdewitt.org

You will be added to our communication list and you will be posted on the needs of our neighbors.

Road to Emmaus Meals

Road to Emmaus Ministry is a Catholic outreach ministry located on South Salina Street. Once a month, 6-8 Holy Cross volunteers help to set up & serve a hot meal provided by Emmaus. The relaxed atmosphere allows us to meet our neighbors on the southside. We hear the issues and concerns that are part of getting through the day or by raising a family while struggling with the challenges of poverty. We are transformed through developing relationships in which we encounter Christ in each other.

Second Thursdays 2019, 4pm-6:30pm:

September 12, October 10, November 14 & December 12.
