Confirmation Mass & Ceremony
Thursday, November 5, 2020
Join us for the Conferral of the Sacrament of Confirmation on the candidates of Holy Cross Catholic Church of DeWitt, NY by The Most Reverend Douglas J. Lucia of the Diocese of Syracuse. Recorded Live on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at seven o'clock in the evening.
First Reading
Isaiah 61:1-3a, 6a, 8-9
The spirit of the Lord the Lord has been given to me, for the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to bind up hearts that are broken; to proclaim liberty to captives, freedom to those in prison; to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord, a day of vengeance for our God, to comfort all those who mourn and to give them for ashes a garland; for mourning robe the oil of gladness, for despondency, praise.
But you, you will be named ‘priests of the Lord’, they will call you ‘ministers of our God’. I reward them faithfully and make an everlasting covenant with them. Their race will be famous throughout the nations, their descendants throughout the peoples. All who see them will admit that they are a race whom the Lord has blessed.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 104:1AB and 24, 27-28, 30-31, 33-34
R. (see 30) Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
Bless the LORD, my soul!
LORD, my God, you are great indeed!
How varied are your works, LORD!
In wisdom you have made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
All of these look to you
to give them food in due time.
When you give it to them, they gather;
when you open your hand, they are well filled.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
Send forth your spirit, they are created
and you renew the face of the earth.
May the glory of the LORD endure forever;
may the LORD be glad in his works!
R. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
I will sing to the LORD all my life;
I will sing praise to my God while I live.
May my meditation be pleasing to him;
I will rejoice in the LORD.
R. Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.
Second Reading
Acts 1:3-8
Jesus had shown himself alive to the apostles after his Passion by many demonstrations: for forty days he had continued to appear to them and tell them about the kingdom of God. When he had been at table with them, he had told them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for what the Father had promised. ‘It is,’ he had said, ‘what you have heard me speak about: John baptised with water but you, not many days from now, will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.’
Now having met together, they asked him, ‘Lord, has the time come? Are you going to restore the kingdom to Israel?’ He replied, ‘It is not for you to know times or dates that the Father has decided by his own authority, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and then you will be my witnesses not only in Jerusalem but throughout Judaea and Samaria, and indeed to the ends of the earth.’
Gospel
Matthew 5:1-12
Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up the hill. There he sat down and was joined by his disciples. Then he began to speak. This is what he taught them: ‘How happy are the poor in spirit; theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Happy the gentle: they shall have the earth for their heritage. Happy those who mourn: they shall be comforted. Happy those who hunger and thirst for what is right: they shall be satisfied.
Happy the merciful: they shall have mercy shown them. Happy the pure in heart: they shall see God. Happy the peacemakers: they shall be called sons of God. Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right: theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ‘Happy are you when people abuse you and persecute you and speak all kinds of calumny against you on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven.’

Prayer for Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
Congratulations to our Confirmandi!
