We are his people: the sheep of his flock.

Readings

Reflection

Often in our daily lives, we complain that we do not have enough, or that God is not paying attention to us. We may even wonder what is happening to the world. Does God even care? In truth, all we have to do is open our eyes to view the bountifulness around us that the Lord our God provides! If change needs to occur, could God be waiting to use us as the agent of change?

One of the themes of today’s readings is that Jesus is the one who nourishes us, who provides for everyone who believes in him. Jesus gives us the sustenance we need to survive. Recall, last week, as we celebrated The Body and Blood of Christ, we recognized that Christ desired to feed those around him with his very own Body and Blood, and that desire continues to this day! Those who believe in the real presence in the Eucharist are able to take Christ into the world and make a difference, as they are Christ’s hands and feet!

When we make the free choice to follow Jesus with our whole heart, we are surprised at the ways in which God sustains us. There are those times when we feel that God is nourishing us with a banquet, but more often, we realize that God is simply sustaining us for the work that lies ahead of us. Blessing comes when we realize that all we have is from God, and we need not want more. Let us be thankful that God has given us his only Son, and that the Son has given us his Body and Blood as life for the world.

Peace,
