Obituary
Carol A. Read, 75, passed away at Fahey Health and Rehabilitation Center in Syracuse, on Thursday October 20, 2022 after a multiple year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Carol was the oldest of seven siblings, 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Upon her graduation from The Convent School in 1965, Carol entered the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception in Newton, MA. She received her BA in sociology from Newton College of the Sacred Heart and continued her education at St. Bonaventure University where she received her Master’s in Theology.
Between 1970 through 1982, Carol taught grammar schools in Atlanta and Savannah, GA, and high school in Roslindale, MA. After leaving the order, Carol proceeded to hold positions at Provident Bank, Dunhill Temporary Systems, and National Fire Protection Association. She then opened and ran “Catered Gifts” in Norwell, MA, a custom gift business, for over 10 years.
For the last 20+ years of her life, Carol was the organist and a staff member at Immaculate Conception Parish and St. Jerome’s Parish, both in Weymouth, MA.
Carol was a humble and extremely caring person who would always go out of her way to help others. She had tremendous faith and truly lived a life of service. The caption under her high school graduation picture starts out “all who know her, love her”.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Dr. Frank Read and Betty Read; and her brothers, Frank and Jim. Her remaining siblings are Kate Mastronardi, Mary Read, Michael Read, and Michele Hall; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours will be on Thursday, November 3, from 4:00 to 7:00PM at Fairchild & Meech DeWitt Chapel, 3690 Erie Blvd East, DeWitt. A Mass of celebration will be on Friday, November 4 at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee Street, DeWitt.
Carol’s family is extremely grateful for the kind, loving, and compassionate care that the caregivers and administration at the Nottingham Memory Care Residence showed Carol during her time there.
