Elizabeth Terrinoni
1926 - 2022
Obituary
Elizabeth (Gonnella) Terrinoni, of Jamesville, N.Y., died Dec. 12, 2022, eight days after the passing of her husband of 75 years, Alfred N. Terrinoni.
She married Al when she was 19, which was a few years after his return from military service in World War II. In 1957, the couple moved from Elm Street, in Syracuse, to Jamesville, where they raised three sons and lived until their final days. Betty died at age 96, and Al was almost 99 when he died.
Betty’s open and giving heart won her friends across all aspects of her long life.
Keeping an immaculate house was a source of pride for her. She also loved her work outside the home at the Muench-Kreuzer Candle Company in Syracuse and the Jamesville-DeWitt High School cafeteria.
An excellent cook and baker, she regularly prepared irresistible Italian fare, from stuffed veal breast to ricotta pie. Over the years, Betty made two trips to Italy, including a visit to her parents’ home village of Bassiano.
Betty was a ceramicist who meticulously hand-painted her creations and shared them with the people she cared about. Her favorite pastime was reading, and she consumed books of all kinds. Her Catholic faith was a pillar of her life. Betty attended St. Mary’s Church in Jamesville and later Holy Cross Church in DeWitt, N.Y.
Besides her husband, Alfred, Betty was predeceased by her sister, Virginia Gonnella Sakowski; her brother, Dan Gonnella; parents Anna Iannucci Gonnella and Alessandro Gonnella; and beloved granddaughter, Emily Terrinoni Hernandez.
Survivors include three sons, David Terrinoni and his wife, Ann Terrinoni, of San Antonio; Alfred Terrinoni Jr. and his wife, Helen Walter-Terrinoni, of Skaneateles, N.Y.; and Michael Terrinoni and his partner, Maureen Nolan, of Pompey, N.Y. Survivors also include two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Eve Gonnella, of East Syracuse, N.Y.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 20th, from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, 4112 E. Genesee Street, Dewitt, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
