Obituary

Joan K. Frani, 87, passed away June 1, 2022 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of the late Joseph and Isabel (Maniccia) Kite. She graduated from SUNY Oswego, taught third grade at St. Kevin's Catholic School in Montreal, Quebec. Joan was a gifted teacher who made any child she engaged with feel special. She later worked in her husband's dental office where she not only helped manage the practice, but always gave patients a warm welcome, many who became lifelong friends. Joan volunteered with the Parent Teacher's Organization at St. James Church in Syracuse, was a member of the Dey Brother's Fashion Board, Onondaga County Dental Society Auxiliary, Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary, Daughters of Columbus, Syracuse Symphony Guild, Corinthian Club, Century Club, Bellevue Country Club and City Club of Palm Beach. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Jane Polega. Joan is survived by her husband of 64 years Dr. Frank L. Frani; daughters, Elizabeth C. Frani (Lee Kresge) and Carolyn Frani (Joseph Zirkman); grandson, Joseph Maxwell Zirkman; sisters, Phyllis Sgroi (Dr. Charles P. Sgori, dec) and Margo Kahute; nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 9 – 11 am at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Joan's life at 12:00 pm at Holy Cross Church. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum in DeWitt.
