Obituary

Edward “Ed” Haynor, 96, of Fayetteville passed away peacefully at the Syracuse VA Hospital on Sunday, February 5, 2023 surrounded by his family. Ed was born in Ithaca NY on October 14, 1926 and raised in Myers NY. He resided in DeWitt NY for most of his life. He is survived by his wife Paula of 73 years; his sons, Edward (Lydia) Haynor of Fairview PA and Robert (Ralph) of Manlius NY. He also survived by his four grandchildren Heather (Garrett) Patik of CO, Lea (Scott) Tilton of CA, Gretchen (Jeremy) Wurtzman of IN and Matthew (Liz) Haynor of TX. His 10 great grandchildren; Ava, Brayde, Beau, Kane, Brooke, Chance, Quinn, Maya, Buck and Isla always brought a smile to his face. Ed is also survived by nephews, cousins and his Aunt Jenny.

Ed graduated in 1944 from Ludlowville High School and earned a BS in Accounting in 1953 from Ithaca College. His accounting career included working at the King Ferry Cooperative, the International Salt Company and Highway Materials. He retired in 1988 as the manager of the Petroleum Accounting Division, Agway, Inc. Ed honorably served in the Philippines during the end of WWII and recalled to active duty during the Korean War serving in Germany.

As a long-time member of Drumlins Golf Club, Ed was an accomplished golfer who oversaw the Men’s League for several years. He could be found in his very organized woodwork shop when not on the golf course. He also served as treasurer of the Kimry Moor HOA for 3 years. Ed and his friend George delivered many meals to local seniors through Meals on Wheels. Many of his family members have one of his many needleworks on their wall. He loved playing solitaire on the computer and solving the daily Sudoku and crossword puzzles.

Ed’s life will be celebrated with a memorial service in July.
