Obituary

James Owen Quartier, 90, of LaFayette, passed away March 1st, 2023.

James was born on January 30th,1933 in Syracuse to the late John and Agnes Quartier. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, and later founded Quartier Printing.

James advocated for education and skilled trade by serving for many years on the LaFayette School Board as well as the All County BOCES of CNY Board. A faithful and religious man, James was an active member in both the parishes of St. Joseph’s in LaFayette and Holy Cross in Dewitt.

James loved to play softball, earning two championship rings from The Senior World Series. He was usually the fastest runner on the team.

A self-proclaimed Snow Bird, James would travel to Florida every winter with his beloved wife of 70 years, where he enjoyed golf, beautiful friendships, and the warm sun.

James had a notorious sweet tooth, and always kept a bag of candy in his sock drawer. He was generous, kind, gentle, and he was loved by all who were lucky enough to know him.

James is survived by his wife, Catherine Quartier (née Kuhn); his children, Susan Hines (David), Stephen Quartier (Carol), Thomas Quartier (Patricia), Lori Keevil (Christopher), Theresa Burns (Timothy) and Catherine Reed (Donald); as well as twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 10th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Eaton-Tubbs Fayetteville Chapel, 7191 E. Genesee Street, Fayetteville, NY 13066.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to be made in James’ honor to Clear Path for Veterans, an organization that supports veterans and their families.
