Obituary
Raymond James Cariseo, 92, of Jamesville passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023. Born in Syracuse, Raymond graduated from North High School, where he played Varsity Basketball and Baseball. His baseball team won the all-city championship in 1950 at MacArthur Stadium. Ray was very proud of his service to his country in the Air Force. He served on the front lines of the Korean Conflict. He spent his career with General Electric for 41 years as a Subcontract Manager in the Heavy Military Department.
He and his wife, Eileen were married on June 29th, 1957 and were married for 66 years. They raised their five children in Jamesville, NY. He and Eileen went dancing every weekend throughout their courtship and continued to love dancing together throughout their life. They enjoyed dancing every Friday at Turning Stone Casino with many friends and also with dancing groups during their winters in Florida during their retirement years, which also gave them an opportunity to visit with their daughter and her husband who live in Southern Florida. He enjoyed bringing his family to Hampton Beach, NH with the extended family every summer and his family will cherish these memories forever.
Ray was a sports enthusiast and coached his sons’, and many other Little League Teams and was an Umpire for the GE Softball League for many years. He was an avid, life-long Boston Red Sox fan and brought his family to Fenway Park every year. A devoted Syracuse University basketball fan from the early Manley Field House days through the present. He served as the President of the GE Sports Night Dinner and recruited many famous sports personalities as his keynote speakers, including Mickey Mantle, Joe Theismann, Dick Vitale and Floyd Little
A gambler at heart he loved going to the Casinos and Saratoga Race Track, especially when his sons’ horses were running. He loved associating with the owners and trainers in the paddock. He loved fishing with his sons, his brother-in-law, and later off the dock of his daughter’s home.
He was a fun, laid-back husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by his wife and family.
Predeceased by his father, mother and three siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen his 5 Children: Charlene Witz (deceased husband Boe), Michael Cariseo, Karen (Todd) Anthony Steven Cariseo, and Raymond (Meghan) Cariseo; 10 Grandchildren: Zach, Liz, Mick, Josh, Katie, Dom, Angie, Colum, Leo, and Niamh; 3 Great-grandchildren: Isla, Finn, Lennie (and 3 on the way!)
Services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, DeWitt, NY. Visitation from 10 -11 am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial with Military Honors will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Jamesville.
